Who We Are

Our Mission

Oklahoma Appleseed is a non-profit organization (501(c)3 status pending) that fights for justice and opportunity for all Oklahomans. We approach big issues by tackling the root causes – such as criminal justice reform, mental health care and standards for people in the justice system, the school-to-prison pipeline – and we take our work wherever we believe we can do the most good, whether that’s in the courthouse, at the Capitol, or in the community.

We are part of the Appleseed Network with justice centers in 17 states and Mexico.

Commitment to Race Equity

Oklahoma Appleseed is committed to diversity, inclusion, equity, and dismantling systemic racism that produces inequitable outcomes for communities of color. These foundational values are central to our mission to increase justice and opportunity for all Oklahomans.

What We Believe

Oklahomans are resilient, creative, and ruggedly individualistic. But, to be honest, life has not been easy for many Oklahomans struggling with big issues. We have been number one in incarceration for most of the last 20 years. We're ranked number one in despair. We have the highest childhood trauma of any state in the nation. Our people need collective action, and we've waited long enough.

The problem with big issues--like poverty, crime, childhood trauma and education--is they often have a lot of players, communication is fractured, and creative solutions seem out of reach.

That's where Oklahoma Appleseed comes in. We bring the players to the table--whether that table is in the Capitol, in the streets, or in the court room--and we hash it out. Big policy problems require big solutions.

It can be daunting and it can feel impossible. But we are not alone. When Oklahomans feel the power of their collective voice, we become powerful beyond measure.

Big problems don't feel so big when we're all in this together.
