At the schools where it's practiced, 75.8 students per 1,000 are subject to corporal punishment.
It's still happening. Some lawmakers and state leaders say corporal punishment is a thing of the past. There were 3,968 incidents in 2017-18 school year, the year for which we have the most recent data.
Black students are 2.5 times more likely to be subjected to corporal punishment than their share of students in schools where corporal punishment is still practiced.
